as i travelled down
that lonely winding road
i found a man
walking alone
i caught up
and we walked
in silence
a quiet agreement
to enjoy nature
soon we came
to the end
where the road split
left and right
we went our own ways
i to the left
he to the right
and i received news
three days later
he had cancer
and he had died
he died happy
for that walk
was his last
and he walked
not alone
but by me
in silence
so as i travelled back down
that lonely winding road
i found inner peace
and strength i never knew i had
the road is gone
replaced by a city
but i still remember
that lonely winding road
where i found i
and he found he
where strength is found
amongst trees
and the birds' songs
songs of love
and that lonely winding road
